Gimli likes his comforts, but he’s often too proud to admit when something is too much for him—cold, or a hard bed, or whatever. The trouble is that it’s not physically possible for him to outlast an elf in contests of endurance. So Legolas starts getting a bunch of extra blankets and warm robes, and he pretends they’re for himself, even though they both know they’re for Gimli—and then Gimli makes a habit of “stealing” Legolas’s clothes. It lets Gimli keep his pride, and Legolas is just glad that he’s warm enough.
