 Hey folks! A friend of mine (a pop culture scholar) has a podcast he's invited me on, to talk about headcanons and specifically, "sexy headcanons". I've been a guest on his podcasts before and it's always a fun time. I'm trying to take not only my own sexy headcanons with me -- anyone have any Legolas/Gimli ones in particular you'd be willing to share?

Hmm, well, I don't know if this is what he's looking for, but there are a ton of wonderful L/G lines ("stout legs and hard axe," anyone?) that imply that they're very VERY into each other. But a personal favorite headcanon of mine, as far as actual sexual encounters, is that one happens here:

"Then Legolas repaid his promise to Gimli and went with him to the Glittering Caves; and when they returned he was silent, and would say only that Gimli alone could find fit words to speak of them."

LOTR is so easy to headcanon sexual encounters because so little of the story is told in close POV, but this line is ENTIRELY reminiscent of fade-to-black sex.

Honestly, L/G is one of the easiest ships to fit into what he's looking for (ships where you don't have to change the canon at all to make it work, essentially), because it's all just...right there...the book text is basically "they became friends in Lorien and spent the rest of their lives together and then sailed away over the sea together" and it's like "lol, 'friends' amirite, sure JRRT, 'friends'"

Seriously. It's... I mean, it's basically canon. They go on a honeymoon together. They sail to VALINOR together. that quote is just my favorite interlude of "and they definitely had sex right then."

I put some thought into this and realized I have (at least) two alternate and mutually exclusive headcanons here:

1) The Lórien whirlwind romance headcanon: basically they fast-forward their way through the Enemies to Friends to Lovers trope. The first time they have sex they both think it's a one-off thing, but it keeps happening again. And again. (Because all those long walks, come on.) By the time they sail down the Anduin, they're an item.

2) The headcanon where the Battle of Helm's Deep is a tipping point where they realize how much they would have lost, had the other not made it through. Insert a confession scene at some convenient point before their departure, and then ALL the mounting UST right up to the Pelennor Fields (because sharing a horse with the person you've just found out fancies you back... ALL the inconvenient boners I tell you *winkwink nudgenudge*) And after THAT battle, they sneak off somewhere asap for a desperate celebratory fuck.

But I'm also 120% with roselightfairy on the Aglarond thing (because hello there post-coital daze), and it fits nicely with both of my alternate headcanons.
